What if a human being was a dog –
Tail wagging, yapping ever joyfully –
Out early mornings, joining as you jog:
Your pal and your responsibility?
How do you play it when it comes across
A fellow canine, sniffing as it goes?
Can you control it? Show it who is boss?
Become a stronger power than its nose?
Were you prepared for this when you left home?
Did logic then help out our humankind?
Dogs are instinctive, can’t be left to roam,
They lack that sense that in our brains we find.
You know – think for a moment – what they need:
You see it hanging by the door : a lead.
