Windsor Humanists and Reading Humanists, both partner groups of Humanists UK, are collaborating as “Humanists in Berkshire” to run “The One Life Course” this autumn.
The course is open to anyone living in Berkshire and the adjacent counties of Buckinghamshire or Oxfordshire wanting to know more about humanism and non-religious perspectives on living a good life. It is suitable for those who are already humanists but who want to know more, for RE teachers, and for people of other faiths/worldviews who just want to find out what humanists believe.
The course is an introduction to humanism including humanist perspectives on science, ethics, religion, “everyday humanism” and society. It comprises six weekly sessions presented by local humanists living in the Windsor and Reading areas and delivered every Thursday via Zoom from 17th October to 28th November (we’ll be taking a week off for half-term on 31st October).
The flyer below lists the dates and sessions. You can attend selected sessions or the whole programme. It’s free but we appreciate a small voluntary donation to cover costs. Please contact us at windsor@humanistgroups.org.uk or reading@humanistgroups.org.uk if you want to find out more. Or you can sign up directly for the initial taster session on our Meetup page via this link: Humanists in Berkshire – One Life Course – Taster Session Thu, Oct 10, 2024, 7:00 PM | Meetup
We look forward to seeing you!
Having attended this course several times in Dorset, when David Warden pioneered it before I believe Chester took it on and it morphed into the course that exists today, I found it essential in grasping a rounded picture of humanism in its entirety. Many people might think of humanism being just Atheists with another hat, but not really understanding or caring about the differences.
The course, as I did it, covered it's historical beginnings, values, and involved group discussion and interaction, something that humanist groups everywhere could benefit more from.
Hopefully Humanistically Speaking can look forward to photos from the course, and maybe a review or two from those attending for our news section. 😃
